Watertown Democratic Town Committee Holds Meeting

Without a speaker, this months Watertown Democratic Town Committee covered a wide range of topics both local and national. After the reading of the minutes from the last meeting, the conversation turned to the recent caucus. Everyone who helped with the caucus was thanked for making the caucus run relatively smoothly, but problems with the caucus were discussed. The biggest issue was space; as in lack of it. The size of the turnout was bigger then many at the committee suspected; especially surprising was the organization and the size of the Patrick’s campaign. (Full disclosure: I have volunteered for the Patrick Campaign, but was not involved with the caucus)   The idea of moving the meeting to a different room such as a school gymnasium, church hall, or the new library’s conference center was discussed. The impasse with these ideas was the cost which would most likely run around 500 dollars for the venue. In addition, more preplanning for the caucus was thrashed about with proposals ranging from pre-made ballots to having high school students volunteer.

After the discussion of the caucus, the meeting’s conversation was free flowing. Volunteers were asked for a possible town health care forum. Later, debate occurred of how involved the committee should be in national politics; specifically, if the committee should support the grass roots campaign to impeach President Bush. No clear consensus emerged on that impeachment issue.
