On Saturday I volunteered to gather signatures to get Deval Patrick on the ballot for governor. I was stationed outside of the Stop and Shop on Pleasant Street. While gathering signatures I kept thinking about Malcolm Gladwell’s book Blink. The book examines how snap judgments are made and about how many times those judgments that are made in a split-second are right. When gathering signatures usually I could tell just by the glance people gave me from a distance whether or not I had a chance to get them to sign the petition. The other biggest way to tell if they were going to sign the petition was to check out their cars bumper stickers. If someone walked out of car that had bumper stickers that supported progressive causes then they were likely to sign. Overall, I was impressed on how polite people were. No one likes to be bothered even in the slightest when they are doing the daily routine activities like shopping for groceries and yet the worst people did was ignore me;
