On Racing: Horses, Running, Cars, Bikes, and Video Games.

Yesterday was the Kentucky Derby. I was out playing basketball so I did not watch it, but whenever I catch one of the big horse races on T.V. I end up watching them. Usually before a race, for a random reason I pick a horse to root for; then, you only have to watch for a suspenseful 2 minutes to find out if your horse won. Boom bam you are done.  Racing events like NASCAR on the other hand that last more then a few minutes long are mind numbingly boring. This includes the Boston Marathon (which is only interesting to watch to witness Bob Lobel’s forced enthusiasm) and the Tour De France. There is a way to make the Tour De France more interesting;   there was this video game back in the day called Road Rash where you raced on motorcycles, but had weapons to attack your fellow racers with. Imagine if Lance Armstrong could have smacked a competitor in the head with a crowbar causing his opponent to careen down the French Alps to his doom. Now that is entertainment. Road Rash was a fun game, but not nearly the best racing video game. That honor goes to Gran Turismo series. Gran Turismo has great graphics and game play, but the only problem is that it has lap based courses. Instead of doing laps around a course, I prefer driving cross country type video games. The best one of these is Cruisen U.S.A. I wasted many a quarter at the Dream Machine arcade on that game. The game was a cross country race, much like the movie Cannonball Run which is the movie with the best cast ever: Sammy Davis Jr., Burt Reynolds, Terry Bradshaw, Jackie Chan, Dean Martin, Farrah Fawcett, Bianca Jagger, Roger Moore, Jimmy the Greek, Peter Fonda, Dom Deluise, and Joe Klecko (NFL player and father of Dan).
