Goodie Mobb’s Cee-Lo has always played second fiddle to Outkast’s Andre 3000 when people think of eccentric hip hop geniuses from Atlanta. That may soon change. Cee-Lo had combined with D.J. Danger Mouse of Grey Album fame to form Gnarls Barkley. I just purchased their album St. Elsewhere today and am recommending others to do so. The music can best be described as alternative funk soul. If that does not make a lot sense to you, imagine if Curtis Mayfield made an album with Parliament Funkadelic. I have heard the lead single “Crazy” get played on Alternative Rock stations and hip hop stations which is an impressive feat. If you don’t want to buy the album based on my recommendation alone, check out their music at www.myspace.com/gnarlsbarkley
I love the video for Crazy.
