I was checking out a book at the Boston Public Library today and I noticed that they had a section of books up of the summer reading list for the pupils of Boston Public Schools. Summer Reading is one of the impractical traditions that school systems still hold on too. I had many a teacher that when school started again did not bother checking or testing whether or not you did your summer reading in any way. I always did a lot of summer reading, just nothing that was on the Summer Reading list, with one exception. Once in Elementary School and twice in middle school I did my summer reading book report on the Bo Jackson autobiography Bo Knows Bo. For some reason the book was always on the reading list and teachers never seemed to make the effort to check what you had read in past years so I got away with writing about the same book over and over again. Do you know that Bo Jackson cried when Mike Tyson lost to Buster Dougles? I do. Do you know Bo Jackson would have quickie sex in between practice drill times? I do. Do you Know that Bo Jackson threw a rock at a neighbors Pig when he was a child and the pig died? I do. Bo knows Bo and because of the archaic summer reading system, so do I.
