Observations On July 4th

This scene will replay many times in the Boston Suburbs tomorrow:  A man arrives back from a trip to New Hampshire where he scored some fireworks. He lights off a few in his back yard possibly during a BBQ. Police sirens go off and cop cars head towards the house where the fireworks were scene. The cops drive slowly past the house, while the people at the house have either already scurried inside or are sitting outside and wave to the cops politely with the I am innocent smirk on there face that looks like Sylvester when he is being questioned by Tweety’s owner about the birds whereabouts.

Speaking off fireworks, I was riding my bike home around 5pm today near the Esplanade and they were already a bunch of people there camped out. I have seen the fireworks from the Esplanade twice in my life and both times it was pretty cool, but no it would never rank on my list of things I would camp out to see.

Does anyone else think that the World Cup Scheduling committee put a Semi-final game of the world biggest sporting event on July 4th as a quasi slight towards the United States and our freedom fries antics the past few years?

If you are in H20town the top of Palfrey Hill is a great spot to see the Newton fireworks and too a lesser extent the top of Irving Park is a solid place to view the Newton fireworks.
