Prediction: Corporate Street Names Within 10 Years

Cities and Towns are strapped for cash. Companies are always looking for new ways to market products. It is only a matter of time before these 2 issues combine and we will have corporate street names. Companies pay millions of dollars for naming rights to sports stadiums; why not pay a few hundred thousand for the rights to a street name? This is an idea whose time will come. Within 10 years when someone asks you how to get to your house you will answer “take a left on Old Navy lane, then straight on Dunkin Doughnuts St. for 2 miles, then left on Nike Ave, and finally go down 2 blocks on Taco Bell Terrace.” Eventually, we will even get ideas about someone’s socioeconomic standing based upon the brand name of the street they live on. It will be a well known fact that people who live on Wal-Mart Road are not as well off as people who live on Versace Lane.

    Hi, Teddy:

I guess great minds think alike, huh?

Funny thing - last night, I was re-reading a book by Bill Bryson wherein he suggested pretty much the same thing I did. I didn't remember that at all, but maybe it was stuck in the recesses of my memory somewhere. So, great ideas occur to more than one person sometimes, I guess.
