The population of the United States of America will reach 300 million people this year mostly due to a increase in both legal and illegal immigrants. The largest increases have been in the Hispanic and to a lesser but still significant extent Asian populations. Furthermore, Demographers in a story in the USA Today, predict that around the year 2050 Caucasian people will no longer be over 50 percent of the US population. However, what is also consistently increasing is interracial and intercultural marriages. Adding in the number of unmarried people from different races having children leads me to make my own prediction about the racial and cultural demographics of America’s population in 2050; Though I doubt they will still be in use in the year 2050, lets just say for my hypothetical that people are still asked to full out surveys and check off the box next to either White (non-hispanic), Black, Asian, Native American, Latino, or Other. I predict due to all the interracial offspring that the majority of Americans will be checking off the box next to the word Other. I call this the Bulworth Effect or if you want to put it into more patriotic terms the Melting Pot Effect. In the end, I don’t think it is a bad thing and in a way it is the only logical end result for the population demographics of our country.
