It looks like Scientist are going to upgrade the number of planets in the Solar System to 12 and there are even reports that scientist wish to classify hundreds of objects in the Kuiper Belt and The Asteroid belt as planets. I fear that scientist are lowering the threshold too much and calling any large round object a planet; this combined with the country's ever growing obesity problem could lead to scientist classifying millions of Americans as planets.

On a side note there is a great song called Trans-Neptunian Object by Kay Hanley. The songs is about her daughter, but the title of the song is a reference to Pluto which for a while scientist wanted to declassify as a planet and call it a Trans-Neptunian Object.
