For those living in the Boston area looking to hear some hip hop or RNB, Hot 97.7/WILD was one of the better options for the past 6 years. That option is no more; the station was sold and will now simulcast rock Station WAAF. WILD was not a perfect station, but at least is had a better variety of music compared to Jam’n 94.5 which plays the 5 songs over and over again at nauseam . Now the only station to hear some decent hip hop is 88.9 fm WERS from 8pm to 12am each night.

Since 97.7 is dead as a hip hop station, now is the time to share some fond memories of its 6 year run. For me, I started listening to the station a lot during the Jay Z vs. Nas battle late summer/fall of 01. Hot 97.7 played Ether, Takeover, and Super-ugly way before Jam’n ever did.
