Hip Hop News A Hopping (Outkast, Danity Kane, 50 vs. Puffy)

A lot of big news in the world of Hip Hop the past 24 hours. The big story that became officially last night is that Bad Boy ENT’s girl group Danity Kane sold 234 thousand copies in their debut week to get the number 1 spot  over Outkast who sold 196K. While this seems shocking on the surface it should not be; the Outkast album (which I have enjoyed a lot… Hollywood Divorce and The Train are the hip hop songs of the year) does not have any radio friendly singles and it is a soundtrack album which combined to dull its sales. Danity Kane does not have a lot of radio airplay, but has had more expose then Shakira’s navel on MTV the past few years. Hell, I think if the cast of Laguna Beach released an album it would debut number 1. The Danity Kane debut continues a strong year for Bad Boy which as had album sale and radio play success with Yung Joc and Cassie.

On the same night that Puffy (I will never refer to him as Diddy) should be celebrating his labels success, comes a 50 Cent diss track directed at Puff. 50 is pissed off at Puffy because he claims Puffy reneged on his promise to let a re-thuged-out Ma$e join G-Unit and get out of his Bad Boy contract. Puffy is reportedly asking for a 2 Million dollar buy out for Ma$e which 50 is correctly scoffing at. I wonder what 50 even wants in Ma$e? 50 should focus more on home grown talent like Lloyd Banks and Young Buck. His first Steinbrenner-like veteran signing Mobb Deep flopped harder then A-Rod in the clutch. Here is the link to download the song “Bomb” and hear 50 dissing Puffy: http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=D9AF078768E2D52A

Puffy was on Hot 97 in New York tonight and was asked about the 50 song. This is not a direct quote but Puffy’s response was something like “ I don’t have anything against 50, but if he wants Ma$e on G-Unit he has to pay me…later on he pointed out that the Tupac song Hit Em Up was directed at him so he is not worrying to much about this song.

Another factor to be considered is if all of this will take buzz away from Lloyd Bank’s album.
