Top 5 Trot Nixon Memories

There is a chance that today is the last game that Trot Nixon plays in a Red Sox uniform. If that is the case, it will be end of the era of not only the sox player with the longest tenure in the Sox’s organization, but the player who most defined the Red Sox “dirt dogs.” In case it is his last game, here are my top 5 Trot Nixon Memories.

5. Trot Nixon homers in the ninth of Game 6 in the 03 ALCS series vs. the Yankees giving the sox and 9-6 lead and forcing a Game 7.

4. Hits 3 Homeruns against Detroit at the old Tigers Stadium July 24th of 99.

3. Hits a walk off HR to beat Oakland in Game 3 of the ALDS in 2003 in the 10th inning.

2. In August of 05 while he is on the DL, Trot runs on the field to protest a non-HR call for replacement Gabe Kapler. Nixon is subsequently ejected. A classic Trot incident: loyal, selfless, and slightly crazy.

1. Clemens Dominance: I can’t recall a single player who gave Roger Clemens more fits then Trot Nixon. There were a lot of epic battles, but there are 2 classic Trot vs. Clemens moments. July 5th 2003: after an angry Clemens beans Kevin Millar, Nixon takes the next pitch deep for a 2 run HR to lead the sox to victory. May 28th 2000: one of the best regular season games I have ever seen. Both Pedro Martinez and Roger Clemens have pitched shout outs into the 9th inning until 2 outs in the top of the 9th when Trot Nixon takes a Clemens fastball into the right field bleachers at Yankee stadium giving the sox a 2-0 lead which Pedro holds for the win.
