RIP Tower Records

Tower Records is officially being liquidated and is the latest casualty of the digital music era. I in a way contributed to Tower’s demise in that I would always browse at the Tower store On Mass Ave in Boston (before it became Virgin) or the Harvard Square Tower, but actually buy my music at locally owned and cheaper Newbury Comics. As many you already know, I am music obsessive, but refuse to buy an MP3 player or IPod since they don’t come with and AM/FM tuner. In general, I also like the idea of having physical copies of all the music I own and thus still buy actual C.D.s at Newbury. I am curious to see if the end of the major record stores is a boon to individual music stores and smaller retail chains or the nail in the coffin to all music record stores. I hope it is the former.
