When trying to have an informed opinion on stem cell research, I want to hear from the experts. Such as Jeff Suppan who was recently featured in a commercial in Missouri regarding the issue. Yes, you read that right. Jeff Suppan. The man who is best known around these parts as a former Red Sox prospect and the homeless man’s Gregg Maddux suddenly wins the NLCS MVP and is featured in a political add. While I think any political add that features random celebrities is pretty damn silly, I have yet to see a more absurd celebrity political add appearance then Jeff Suppan. What will this lead to? Brian Rose talking about gay marriage? Carl Pavano supporting unilateral talks with N. Korea? The immortal Vaughn Eshelman appearing on my T.V. screen urging me to support lowering the estate tax? The possibilities are endless. Here is the link to the Suppan add:

No sillier than having Michael J. Fox running the ad that garnered this response, unless you'd like to argue that having an illness makes somebody an expert on the topic.

For the record, I stated that all political ads with celebrities were silly. Since I used the word all, I would assume people would understand that the Michael J. Fox add was included. If you are insinuating that I am singling Jeff Suppan out because he is conservative, you would be wrong. I am singling Jeff Suppan out because I am Red Sox fan and I find it remarkable that his career arc went from Red Sox prospect, slightly average major league pitcher, back on the Red Sox and sucking, back to the N.L. and being a slightly above average pitcher again, winning a couple of playoff games, then boom he is in a political add. It is pretty damn absurd course of events.
