Election Predictions Local and National
I am going to start off with the local races first before I give my opinion on if the Democrats can take control of congress. In the 29th Middlesex State Rep race we have the incumbent Democrat Rachael Kaprielian vs. Republican challenger Keith Mercurio and let’s not forget independent Tom Geary. Aside from the letter gate scandal where people from both candidates camp’s hurled accusations at each other, I think both candidates have run a spirited race and would like again to thank both candidates for taking time to answer my various annoying email questions I sent to both of them. (I was especially impressed by Mr. Mercurio who usually replied back within the hour) In the end, because of her name recognition and the fact I she is a Democrat in a town like
For question one, I think there will be an overwhelming yes vote. People want the convenience of being able to buy wine at Supermarkets and convenience stores and since wine is not associated with teen drinking that much I don’t think the scare commercials will drive that many people to vote no. Prediction Yes 77% No 23%
In the governor’s race, a combination of Republicans staying home since they won’t think Healey will win and Patrick’s strong grass root organization will lead to a pretty convincing victory for Patrick. Prediction Patrick 53% Healey 38% Mihos 8% Ross 1%
Nationally things are really hard to predict. I have read stories how both sides are confident, yet I have also read stories where both sides are worried. Turn out will be the biggest factor. A factor that no one is talking about so far is gender. On a whole, women lean slightly more Democratic then men and in the mid terms this year I think there will be slightly higher percentage of women voters then usually. Prediction Democrats take the House Republicans keep the Senate by one seat.
