Overtime in Virginia

Though he was leading throughout most of the night, Virginia Senator George Allen is now slightly behind Jim Webb. The race is close enough (less then 6K separates the 2 candidates) that it might end up in political overtime AKA a recount. Hopefully it does not end in a Shout-out which is an unsatisfying and unjust way to end a sporting event and its political equivalent of an election being decided by the courts is just as profane to the competitive sprit.

If both George Allen and Santorum go down in one night, it will be like 2 perennial playoff teams being eliminated from the Playoff contention the same night. Santorum and Allen were both considered contenders to be a Vice Presidential candidates and to a lesser extent Presidential candidates just a few months ago in conservative circles. Losing both of them in one night would be a blow to the party.
