While listening to WEEI this morning, I noticed a new trend: gambling radio infomercials. Most radio commercials are either 30 seconds or minute long spots. However, there are these new gambling commercials that last an entire commercials break which is about 3 minutes. Furthermore, the commercials are designed to sound like a sports talk show with a couple of guys talking about this week coming games. If you are only half paying attention to the radio, you would just assume that the people talking in the commercial are part of the actual talk show or some sort of special segment of the talk show and not a commercial. Of course in the commercial they occasionally drop the paid number to call to get this weeks football picks. I am guessing that there are quite a few desperate and not to bright gamblers out there who are calling that number and do not even understand that it is a commercial and has nothing to do with WEEI’s actual programming.
