John Edwards may be the most overrated political figure of this millennium. He served one undistinguished term in the Senate. During the 04 elections, people at first compared him to Bill Clinton. I don’t know Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton was not a friend of mine. John Edwards is no Bill Clinton. His performance in the 04 campaign during the debate, in his convention speech, and in his general campaigning can only be described as amateurish. Despite that, I still hear pundits mentioning him as a serious contender in 08. It is also being reported he may announce his intention to run in the next week while in the Hurricane ravaged ninth ward of the New Orleans. If Edwards does this, it will be yet another political misstep. He may think that announcing his candidacy in the ninth ward will make him look like a populace champion of the downtrodden, but it will back fire and make him look like an exploiter of the people there by using them as a campaign backdrop.
