Strange Bedfellows In Boston Sports Talk
Over a year ago, Herald columnist Michael Felger who at the time was a frequent guest on Sports Talk Radio 850am WEEI and an occasional Co-host defected from WEEI to host the afternoon drive show on 890am ESPN The Zone. This put him in direct competition with the show he was most often heard Glen Ordway’s The Big Show. Usually when someone leaves the WEEI team, the remaining WEEI show hosts will bash and mock them subtly after they leave. (See Andelman Eddie, Sarandis Ted, Shaughnessy Dan) However, in the case of Felger, while there were the occasional jokes at his expense saying he seemed to disappear off the face of the earth, usually these where made after praising one of his columns. Today, I saw something else that may signal an eventual return to WEEI for Felger. On the T.V. station Fox Sports New England, both Felger and Ordway who are in direct competition with each other on the radio, appeared in the same T.V. commercial together to promote their 2 football shows which appear back to back on Fox Sports New England. Thus, despite being rivals, they are maintaining a business relationship and a general decorum. I predict that in a year or two either John Dennis or Dale Arnold’s contract is not renewed at WEEI and they are replaced with the younger and cheaper Felger.
