When first I heard of Blood Diamond early in the year I thought it had the potential to be one of the great movies of the year. Then I saw the crappy preview and mediocre reviews and went into seeing the movie tonight not expecting too much. I think because of my low expectations, I was pleasently surprised. At times it veered to much into a typical thriller formula and I wish it went more in depth about the role of the Diamond Companies then a few tacked on scenes. In the end, it was a slightly above average thriller and a slightly above average issues movie. Djimon Hounsou had a great performance, and DiCaprio was good but not Oscar worthy. Jennifer Connelly like most female characters in movies like this, was not given too much to do. Overall Grade: B-
