High Fidelity Syndrome
It seems that every possible personality quirk is being elevated to some sort of syndrome or disorder by our quick fix take pills first culture in order to make extra profits for the pharmaceutical industry. In that vain, I am coining the term High Fidelity syndrome which is defined as the compulsive need to create lists of best song in various categories. Earlier today I started thinking about what are the greatest love songs of all time for a Valentine’s Day post for my blog next week. Since then, I have been compulsively writing a list of great love songs with the hope of writing at least a 1000 that I will whittle down to the 100 greatest for my post next week. During this time I have each time I think of a certain song I end up thinking about a girl I’ve ever dated. Because of this, the over-under for amount of sleep I am going to get tonight while frantically writing is about an hour and half. To quote the opening of the book/movie High Fidelity “What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?”
