In Sports, Chemistry=No One Wants To Be The Screw Up
If a team has good “Chemistry”, is something debated often in sports. In addition, people discuss if “Chemistry” exists or is it a by product of winning. I believe that all sports teams whether they are a pick up game team in the park or professional sports team have similar dynamics. From personal experience, I would define a team as having good chemistry as not when they all like each other or when they are winning, but as when no one wants to be the guy (or girl) who fucks up. When you are on a team and everyone is trying their best and fitting into a roll, there is a pressure exerted on every person on the team to perform at their highest capability or a glaring spotlight gets put on you because everyone can clearly see you are the person who is not doing their job. Good chemistry can be ruined if a player or players start either sucking or dogging it to the point where other teammates turn on them or the sucking player gets down on themselves causing awkwardness for the other players on the team. Right now the Sox have good chemistry. Nearly everyone is bearing down and fighting and even people who are underperforming like Drew are doing little things like taking pitches that allows both the team and Drew himself to feel like he is contributing in some way and thus not hurting the team chemistry.
