I Hope They Go Out Of Business

Since yesterday was payday, I had a little discretionary income this morning. I decide I was going to procure the new Tegan & Sara CD The Con. Feeling a little lazy, I decided to head over to the closest C.D. store which is the F.Y.E. in the Arsenal Mall vs. riding my bike to Harvard Square or Boston. Once I got into the mall, I noticed it seemed to be busier then usually which led me to remember that today was tax free day or some such. After walking past the mall zombies, I got into the F.Y.E. When I walked into the store, I was greeted by the Rob Thomas blaring from the speakers in the store. The only thing that annoys me more then Rob Thomas is when the new guy in the bullpen blows a game for Matsuzaka and makes a great bunt by Lugo meaningless.  In order to drown out the sound of Thomas’ voice while I looked for the Tegan and Sara, I pulled out my Ipod and blasted Kay’s new demo of “Take It Like A Man.” I kept looking through the C.D. stacks under the letter T under every possible genre of music until I realized my quest was in vain. There was no Tegan and Sara CD to be found. This added to my level of pistivity at the store which was already on high from Rob Thomas being on. I understand that Tegan and Sara is not a super mainstream band like Fall Out Boy, but they are also not a no name act. They are on a label that is a subsidiary of Warner Brothers Music and get radio air play. The fact that the C.D. was not at the store is a disgrace. I quickly left the store and the mall, hopped on my bike, rode down Arsenal, up the river, down the street to Harvard Square, and eventually to Newbury Comics where I quickly found the Tegan and Sara CD on the front and center best seller list. Here is hoping that all record store chains like F.Y.E. go the way of the dinosaurs and only the likes of Newbury Comics, Hollywood Records, and C.D. Spins remain. For the record, I understand that I could have just bought the album online and save myself the hassle, but I have a constant fear everything on my computer hard drive and Ipod will randomly crash leaving my music collection in shambles. Thus, even though my C.D. collection takes way too much space at my new house, my mom’s house, my book bag, and my draw at work, I will continue to buy C.D.s because at least then I still have a hard copy of the music somewhere.
