It is being reported that Deval Patrick will soon recommend that the state sell 3 casino licenses to the highest bidders. This is an idea whose time has come. I understand all the social ills that casinos may bring and people's concern about that; however, many of those social ills are already present with the lottery, illegal gambling, and the 2 Connecticut casinos just a hop and a skip away. Casinos in MA will bring too much revenue to the state and create too many jobs in the construction/running of the casino and all the other businesses that will spring up around the casinos. Finally, while not everyone in MA wants casinos, I think the general consensus is that this is something the people of this state want and the will of the people needs to headed when possible. I think that House Speaker Sal DiMasi will try to fight the casinos, but in the end will lose which will be a big political victory for Patrick if it happens.
