First Round Playoff Predictions

Today is the calm before the storm in the sports world. Nothing is going on, but soon we will be barraged with non stop Playoff Baseball, NFL/College Football, and even Hockey for those who still care. (I am trying to still care about the Bruins I really am) Since we have a break in the sports action, here are my first round of the MLB playoff predictions:

Philadelphia over Colorado in 5: Both teams come into this with a lot of momentum and strong offenses. However, The Phillies have Cole Hamels who is a legitimate lefty ace. I say he is the difference in game 5 and the series.

Cubs over Diamondbacks in 4
Arizona had the better record and played more consistently the entire season; On the other hand, outside of talented rookie Chris B Young they have no offensive weapons. The Cubs big 3 hitters (Lee, Soriano, and Ramirez) will be too much for the Diamondbacks.

Cleveland over New York in 5
The Yankees beat Cleveland 6-0 in the regular season. Sabathia did not pitch in any of those games though. The hefty lefty will come up book vs. the Yankees. Clemens on the other hand will get nailed by Cleveland’s strong fastball hitting line up. In the some things never change department, Jeter and Posada will come up with big hits, but A-Fraud will end up leaving runners on base when he the mascara he is wearing drips into his eye because he is sweating so much.

Red Sox over Angels in 4
When it comes down to it, the pitching is pretty even in the series in both the starting rotation and the bullpen. When it comes to offense, the Moneyball Red Sox have a lot people who can drive in runs then the Smallball Angels. The sox will neutralize the Angels biggest weapon Vlad The Impaler by never pitching the strike zone. For the Sox, more of their offensive weapons have had chances to rest up this past month and recover from injuries. More then anyone, I foresee the most maligned man in Boston the past 8 months David Jonathon Drew coming up big this series. Look for Jacoby to create havoc on the basepaths as a pitcher runner at least once as well.
