The Weakest Link
•In the post-season at some point in time any weaknesses you have on your team will be exposed. Tonight, the biggest weakness on the Sox which is the end of the bullpen was the reason we lost. Gagne gagged yet again. Giving up a hit to Sizemore is forgivable; walking a punching Judy hitter like Cabrera is not. For his own safety I think Gagne should just leave the city and not come back. Lopez the lefty who can’t get out lefties then came in and fucked up even more. Why the fuck did Lopez not try and grab that ball up the middle? The game was still a game at that point. By the time Lester came in the game was over.
•It is times like this, when you hope that the Sox brass know what they are doing regarding not letting Buchholz pitch anymore. We could have used him in the late innings tonight if he was on the post season roster.
•You got to hand it to Sizemore/Eric Wedge for playing Youk well in that 10th inning at bat. I was sure that ball had the gap when it came off of Youk’s bat after that epic battle. Wedge managed a good game in general.
•That ball Crisp hit would have been gone at most Ballparks especially Yankee Stadium.
•I loved how the Sox battled Carmona early in the game and got his pitch count up.
•On the other hand, I was disappointed with Schilling leaving too many meatball 90mph fastballs right over the plate. He had the lead and I am sure he will be the first to tell you that the loss rests with him as much as anybody.
•When I saw Trot come into the game, I knew there was no way in hell he was getting out. I was betting on a walk but he delivered with a single.
•I have to give props to Betancourt; he stabilized the game for Cleveland and was their most valuable player tonight.
•Trying to look at the game objectively even though the Sox lost, the game was a well played classic. It was long enough that I watched/heard it at 4 separate locations: at a house I was babysitting at, in a Cab with a cool Dominican dude driving, at Cardullo's in Harvard Square, and back at the home base in H2otown.
