Bill Simmons & My Teaching Style
- "I think that kids can be brainwashed to believe anything is fun as long as you seem excited about it. You could say to your child right now, "You know what we're doing later? We're heading to the yard to watch grass grow!" And if you sell it well enough, they'll be counting the minutes until the back door opens. Seriously."
That right there is pretty much the teaching style I use in a nut shell. (pauses to laugh at the nut shell joke from Wayne's World) When ever I am going to do a circle time lesson on something I think is interesting, I am usually pretty amped to do it and the children usually absorb my enthusiasm about the subject. Unfortunately, I am not great at faking interest in something; Thus I am pretty good at getting the children in my class interested in Astronomy, different kinds of Music, Sports, Politics/Elections, number games, word games, nature, and other things I enjoy; However, I am not the best at holding their attention when it comes to lessons about art, days of the week, following rules, feelings, and other things I don't have that much interest in myself.
