No Longer Waiting On The World To Change

Before I talk about the winners, a few thoughts on the losers:

  • I think I am going to go into business selling shirts to Romney and his sons that read “I spent 7 million dollars in Iowa and all I got was this lousy voter turnout and T-shirt” ( I admit I was way off on my pick yesterday)
  • Goodbye to the dynamic duo of Dodd and Biden. The previous statement would be accurate if the word dynamic actually meant sleep inducing. Biden can now start his campaign to become Secretary of State.
  • Say goodbye to John Edwards too; while he has not officially dropped out, his campaign is done. Thank god. That guy is a glorified Jim Sokolove, but not nearly as classy.
  • Clinton gave a nice polite speech, but it almost seemed in denial of what happened tonight. In addition, even if Hillary won one of her problems is that she could never deliver the type of rousing speech that the future of the President of the United States did tonight.
  • McCain scored a victory tonight even though he finished tied for third because now he is in position to take down Romney in NH.
  • Huckabee is a stronger candidate the people including myself initially gave him credit for. He does not have the name recognition that Bush did in 00, but his strengths are not only the same as Bush’s but they are stronger. He goes for the plan spoken charm when giving a speech or being interviewed and his good at delivering the occasional joke some which Romney is as bad as John Kerry at. Romney and Kerry are 2 of the unfunniest men on the planet.
  • Obama’s victory was even bigger then Huckabee’s tonight and I am not just saying that because I am a supporter. The Democrats had nearly twice as many people turn out for their caucus then the Republicans which is a good sign for him. Then Obama seized the moment with a rousing speech, with his family by his side, and a ruckus crowd behind him. In a word, Obama’s speech and the scene around it looked historic. He exemplified that point subtly but repeatedly in his speech by talking about how in the future people will look back on this moment as a historic jumping off point. This rhetorical tactic gave both Obama and his speech even more gravitas. Furthermore, Obama waiting to give his speech until after Huckabee spoke made him seem like that main event. It also should be noted that the Independents and the kids came out for Obama giving his change and unity themes a tangible component.
