They Haven't vs. Yes We Can

I am a pre-k teacher and thus have heard many repetitive songs and chants written for the 4-5 year old set. Mindless repetitive chants are also a hallmark of political rallies. Case in point, Mitt Romney's refrain where he says something that Washington said it would do and then he and his supporters shout "They Haven't." The other famous chant from this campaign is Obama's "Yes We Can!" (Deval did the same thing last year) Obama says something that people said he can't do and then he and his crowd shout "Yes We Can." Obama's chant while I admit is equally mindless, works better then Romney's because it is positive, uniting, and uses 3 short every day words. Romney's on the other hand does not work as well because the use of a contraction does not make it flow well. Plus, it is a negative attack on someone else instead of building him and his supports up. Finally, it is strange that Romney wants to "take on Washington" which he says is broken in his speeches, but also heaps praise on  Bush who last time I checked was the leader of Washington the past 7 years in his speech a few minutes later.
