Recap/Pics From Advocacy Day for Early Education @ The State House
On behalf of my employer, I attended today's Advocacy Day for Early Education at the State House. There was a record turn out for the day with over 600 people packed into the Flag Room and even other people listening in the over-flow room. We got to hear speeches from a variety of people regarding the merits of Early Education (it has been shown to help and saves money down the line) and the issues that are currently being advocated for such as making sure that their are enough slots available in ECE programs for all children that need them and increasing the amount of funds available for grants to people who wish to Major in the ECE field in college. Lt. Governor Tim Murray was supposed to speak, but was unable to make it due to his children and wife being sick with the flu. We did get a speech from Senate President Therese Murray who said she would fight to get as much money for ECE into the budget, but acknowledged that the budget is tight now and not everything being advocated for today can be funded.
