A Star Is Born
With his monster first half (.310, 21HR, 95RBI) and come back story ( former #1 draft pick who last it all being addicted to heroin), you might think that Josh Hamilton would already be a star. However, given the fact he plays for the average Texas Rangers and he only recently burst on the scene, many people don't know who he is. I could probably have recited his numbers before tonight, but maybe not picked him out of a line up. That is all going to change after tonight when he hit 28 HRs in the Derby with many of them hitting the upper deck and the back wall at Yankee Stadium. For the record, muck like McGwire at Fenway, he put on the best show but did not actually win the derby. He has so much raw talent that barring injury there seems to be only 2 ways his career can go from here. Becoming a major star and putting up yearly monster numbers or falling off the wagon (or is it getting back on the wagon) and end up playing for some barnstorming team where he will take swigs from a flask between pitches. This leads to an fan ethical question. Lets say your team is playing the Rangers and Hamilton comes to the plate, how much of an asshole would you be if you held of signs or chanted things that made light of his alcohol/drug problems to throw him off his game?
