Shuffle Stories
This is a new thing I am going to do now and then. I am going to put my ipod on shuffle and give a quick commentary about the first 10 songs that come on.
1. Credit In The Straight World By Hole (Live Through This)
I love the organs at the start of this song before the guitars kick in and overall just a killer track. People always say that Kurt wrote most of this album. I don’t know if he did or not but I always considered it the equal to Nevermind.
2. Mr. Vain By Culture Beat
I have many cousins and have known many other Greeks who mostly listen to club music. While that is far from my favorite genre, I will admit that I have a few dance songs on my Ipod and this is one; even though it is almost 15 years old, this is the best one. Great pulsating beat and lyrically it is kinda like the Lush song Ladykiller but from the guy’s perspective.
3. Communication by The Cardigans (Long Gone Before Daylight)
The opening song from The Long Gone Before Daylight album. This came out around a time when I was dating a girl and we were constantly fighting and whenever I hear this it brings me back to that time. Nina Persson’s vocals are haunting on it and kinda set up the entire album as being different then their Gran Turismo album.
4. Throw Some D’s (Remix) By Rich Boy featuring Andre 3000, Lil Jon and Jim Jones
This is the remix of Rich Boy's one big hit which came out in 97; the song sounds kinda stale right now. However, I always listen to Andre 3000's kick ass opening verse before I skip the song. Check the word play:
“mama stayed on me so I turned out pretty go-od
But if you wanna try it sucker now then we can do it
Ha ha sleep, Tylenol PM if I pull it
Sh-sh-sheep, count 'em for the rest of ya life
Yeah yeah ya partner got away but now he vegetable-like
So so I sent his mom and dad a whole case of V8
He can die, any second, how much long it's 'gon take?!
'Gon get it over with, oh what if, you were in my loafers then
You might be the dope but I would flush it down the toilet
Like the boys in blue, when they come through with them boots
And they kickin down the do', and they don't care who they shoot
But we do care who they shoot, so we do what we must do
So we act like we run track, then we run straight to the back
But they comin from the back, so we run back to the front
They say get down on ya knees we say what the fuck you want?!
They want cheese, they want bread, they want dough, they want mo'
Than I wanna give 'em but if I keep talkin they won't know
That my cousin in the back, and we call him Roto-Rooter
Slash plumber, cash runner, and he fire on them computers

5. Touch Me I am Going To Scream By My Morning Jacket (Evil Urges)
They went with different types of sounds and vocals on this album, but this is one of the songs that sound like a more traditional My Morning Jacket song. Pretty straightforward lyrics about the need for human connection that are given more weight by Jim James’s voice.
6. Moment Of Weakness by Bif Naked (I Bificus)
Another album opener and a great pop punk track. I was always surprised that Bif did not become a bigger star. Maybe not to a No Doubt level but maybe a rung or 2 below.
7. Classic Cars by Bright Eyes (Cassadaga)
Coner Oberst’s ode to dating an older woman whom most speculate to be Winona Ryder; she goes through more indie rockers than Dino Radja did cigarettes. Great melodies with kinda a country feel at times. I ve always like the lines “ The whole world it loves you if you are a chic chameleon--Intersecting circles she could hang with anyone--But when conducting business she would lie about where she's from--Saying, "Life is how it is not how it was"
8. Swan Song by Juliana Hatfield (Bed)
I like the grunge sounding opening guitar riff. This is a fantasy kiss off song which has the chorus “"Dear Jack I hate you. Love, Diane" in the middle of song. The climax of the song is her jumping out of her a-hole boyfriends apartment window onto his car with Juiliana’s ending refrain of Clean Up Your Mess.
9. Pipebomb On Lansdowne by Dropkick Murphies
Maybe the definiative Dropkick song. It is kinda ironic to hear now considering that they have destroyed all the clubs on Landsdowne Street apart.
10. On Your Speakers Damone (Out Here All Night)
I love Noelle’s vocals on this song which is a nod to the 100s of other songs about going on tour. The fact that Noelle is singing it though gives it a little twist because usually it is a dude reashuring his girlfriend that they miss them and such not the other way around. Musically, a great pop metal ditty.
