Euros, Dollars, Salary Caps, & An Exodus Of Sports Talent
In the past we have seen American sports stars go play over in Europe or in the case of baseball Japan. Usually those players are not in their prime. While I don't see a mass exodus of American Sports talent to the rest of the world, I do think it is going to be more common place where we have players who are still near or at the prime of their career leaving to play in Europe. Case in point the Hawks Josh Childress leaving to play for Olympiacos in Greece and Jaromir Jagr going to play in Moscow. The NBA and NHL seem most vulnerable to this because those leagues have Salary Caps so they can't pay every player top dollar so someone like Childress can make more money in Greece. (The NFL has a salary cap but no other real football league) In addition, the Euro is at record highs against the dollar making it even more tempting to go to Europe. Then we also have people like basketball player Brandon Jennings who instead of not getting paid in college, decided to go to play in Italy. While he most likely will head to the NBA after that, there also might be a trend of basketball players going to play in Europe where they can get paid instead of being forced to pretend to be amateur players in College for a year like the NBA wants them to.
