Obama Won Tonight
John McCain has much more experience than Barack Obama. John McCain has been in the public spotlight for a longer time than Barack Obama. Strictly looking at the issues, overall McCain may be slightly closer to the general public’s views than Barack Obama. So how did Obama win tonight and overall over the course of the 3 debates? He simply acted like Barack Obama. Over the past 20 months, Obama has faced off against 2 of the best known politicians in the United States in Hillary Clinton and John McCain. While Clinton and McCain both constantly changed their styles and mode of attack against Obama, Obama’s temperament and style have remained consistent and unflappable. While McCain is constantly throwing around policy proposals or doing dramatic stunts like suspending his campaign, Obama has remained steady. While McCain has acted earnest, rolled his eyes at Obama, and seemed overly proud of himself whenever he thought he won a point, Obama has looked like he was handling all the commotion of a presidential campaign and the high drama of debate without trying that hard. The American public knows that neither John McCain nor Barack Obama have a magic bullet that can fix the economy and every other problem facing our country. We will vote for will be the person who can reassure us in a time of crisis. We will vote for the person who can inspire people. We will vote for the person from whom we know what to expect. We will vote for the person who at the time best represents what we want our country to project to the rest of the world. When I was a young child, a conservative named Ronald Reagan was that person. Today I am not 25 years old, and that person is a liberal named Barack Hussein Obama.
