Beckett Game 6 in 08=Schilling Game 6 in 04

Before even game 5, my friend Nick pointed out the potential parallels of Becket in the 08 ALCS and Schilling in the 06 ALCS. Well, the comparison fit tonight. In 04 Schilling in his first start only went 3 innings and game up 6 runs while playing with an injury. In Beckett's first start, he only went 4 innings and gave up 8 runs. In 04, Schilling came back in game 6 with the bloody sock to pitch 7 innings of 1 run ball to get the win. Beckett's sock might not have been bloody, but he was in obvious pain the entire night. Despite the pain, like Schilling in 04, he still did what we needed him to do tough it out for 5 innings and only give up only a couple of runs.
Here are some other thoughts about tonights game:
  •     Tek has a knack for hitting a home run while he is slumping during a key point in the ball game; he set up that HR by getting ahead in the count 2-0 and then waiting on the fastball.
  • Papi came up clutch again with his RBI single.
  • The announces did not really mention it, but how big was Joe Maddon's gamble to try and steal with a catcher (Dave Navarro). If Navarro was on first, Bartlett HR would have been a 2 run shot and at the time resulted in a 3-2 lead.
  • After his early struggles, Oki has been the Oki of last year of late. 2 Huge innings.
  • I admit, I was worried about Masterson facing Upton in the 8th. But Terry had faith and him and Masterson keeps proving that he can rise to occasion.
  • CoCo had a really good night (aside front he pick off nobody saw, thanks TBS) 3/4 with a walk.
  • First order of business in the off-season, give Papelbon a rich long term contract.
  • Hey, the Boston Bruins won tonight and B.C. beat the VA Tech who is ranked 17th.
