5 Reasons I Am Happy The Yankees Got Mark Teixeira
1. With all of their huge new signings, it is going to be 3 times as funny to watch the Yankees fail to win it all again next year.
2. All 3 of their major signings are flawed. A.J. Burnett goes on the D.L. once or twice a year. C.C. Sabathia's is a really good pitcher, but has never had an E.R.A. below 3.21 in the American league, has got hit hard in the post season, has a lot of innings under his belt, and a giant gut under his belt as well that is only going to get bigger as he gets older. His knees and or arm are going to give out. As for Teixeira, he is a really good player, but not a game changer. He will give you about .300 average, 35hr and 110 RBIs. There are other first basemen types out there who can produce similar numbers on a much cheaper price. (more on that later) And I am weary of giving any player an 8 year deal.
3. In terms of pure entertainment, I like it when the Sox face talented teams. Right now, the A.L. East is by far the most talented division in baseball and the Yankees getting Teixeira just adds more talent to the division.
4. Unless the Yankees go completely nuts with the spending, this most likely mean Manny won't end up with the Yankees which is something I did not want to see.
5. This opens the door for other creative solutions to get a big bat. Here is my idea: Prince Fielder does not want to stay with the Brewers for the long term. Because he is also represented by Scott Boras, he will want big money. The Sox have plenty of pitching prospects. I predict the Sox will trade for Fielder to play first base for the next 2-4 years and eventually taking over at DH. How is this for a Sox line up next year.
1. Jacoby Ellsbury
2. Dustin Pedroia
3. David Ortiz
4. Yooouuk
5. Prince Fielder
6. Jason Bay
7. J.D. Drew
8. Jason Varitek/ Saltalamacchia/ what ever catcher we end up with.
9. Jed Lowrie
