Well, not really. But Varitek hitting 2 HRs and generally getting solid contact even when he has made outs is one of the most positive signs of the young season. It would go a long way for the Sox offense, if he could have a late in the career bounce back year the way so many players did at the height of the steroids era.
A couple other side sports notes: Great game between the Bruins and The Canadians tonight even though it did not mean too much for the B's, they played and fought hard literally and metaphorically in what might be a first round preview/flip mode of last year's first round. The Bruins playing on New Years day at Fenway now is pretty much confirmed as well which is pretty damn cool.
