Kessel & Krejci Shine In Game 1

If the Bruins are going to make a run for the Cup, it is going to be the young guys who have to lead not Savard and Chara. That is just what they did tonight. Kessel got the scoring started when he shot on net and Krejci did a great job of tapping the puck away from Price and right back to Kessel who put it in the back of the neck. About a minute later, the Krejci put in a backhander with videogame like precision into the top corner to put the Bruins up 2-0. At that point the crowd was rocking and it seemed like everything was going the Bruins way. However, when Hunwick turned it over allowing the Canadians to have a breakout, everything seemed to turn in Montreal's favor. The initial breakout from Hunwick's miscue was stopped when Berger on came flying in with a dive to break up a pass, but the puck stayed in the Bruins zone and the resulting chaos led to a Montreal goal. Then for the rest of the first period, all of the second period, and the first part of the third Montreal controlled the play and got the game tyeing goal when Kovalev put an amazing blistering slap shot past Thomas. Speaking of Thomas, he deserves a lot of credit tonight. When the Bruins where getting outplayed, he made 3 really tough saves including against a 3-1 to make sure Montreal did not take the lead. The next turning point in the game was when P.J. Axelsson drew a penalty about half way through the third. During the power play, Kessel again did a great job driving towards net in order to draw the defense toward him. He then gave it to Savard who found an wide open Chara who smashed a slap shot right into the open lane that Kessel created for the lead.  The Bruins D got tighter after that, especially Axelsson who again made key plays including getting in front of a slap shot from point blank range that left him staggering around like a wounded animal for a few moments. Overall, solid win, but I hope next game I don't see any period where the Bruins get outplayed like they did tonight in the second.
On a side note, Get well Danny Ainge and lets hope that the Celtics win the first 2 round and give Garnett at least a slight chance to try a heroic comeback against Cleveland.
Double side note, a Nelson Munks ha ha to the Yankees who got their ass kicked at the opening of their new 1.5 billion dollar stadium.
