Brad Penny did not pitch great today; nor has he been dominant all year. However, he pitched a solid start which was good enough to win (he is now 5-1) which is something he has done a lot of this year. Other teams need a veteran like that but the Sox don't. The Sox could throw in Buchholz or Masterson into the 5 slot. The Sox do need a short stop who can play defense though because Lugo and Green can't and Lowrie is trying to come back from a serious injury so we should not assume he will be the answer. Thus, we need Penny to keep doing 5-7 inning solid starts like this until he is eligible to be traded on June 15 so we can trade him for a defensive short stop or a mid level prospect that we could flip for a defensive short stop. Hell, we could even try to get Orlando Cabrera back. The A's are looking to dump salary and O-Cab can play solid defense and has some offensive skills. When we did not resign O-Cab after 04, there where rumors that he did something that pissed off the front office while he was here, but it could not have been too bad because someone would have leaked it.
