Almost Perfect @ Fenway
I have seen many cool things at games that I have been to from a no hitter (D-Lowe in 02) to a couple of walk off home runs. However, I have never seen a perfect game live. Hell, even if I attended every game ever at Fenway, I would have not seen one. (Cy Young did pitch a no hitter for the Boston Americans at the Huntington Avenue Grounds which is now at NU and has a statue to honor the event) That is why every game I go to, I always make note of how in my head (never out loud Eck) of how far the pitcher has gone without giving up a baserunner or a hit. Usually after the third inning is when the spark of the possibility of a perfect game enters my mind. After the 5th when the game is officially is the time when you starting giving the pitcher an ovation when he leaves the mound. The Sox crowd did a great job with this tonight. On a side note, the Sox crowd should chill with the curtain calls for Papi. It was o.k. after the first one, but this one was kind of embarrassing I think for Papi. Are we going to do it after his third HR? his fourth? what if he gets his mojo back and goes on a tear? Back to Lester, he had dominant stuff tonight and kept the Perfect game going through 6 and a third. I am glad it was a solid hit that broke it up; there is nothing worse than a perfect game being lost to a bloop or an error. Now I am just kind of rambling because I don't really have a central point I am driving at aside from wanting to document Lester's 6.1 perfect innings and great start for the blogging record. It also should be noted that Lester's great start comes right after Beckett having a great start and the Sox have played really well so far their 2 best pitchers, 3 if you want to include Dice-K, pitching up to par.
