Jenny Lewis @ The House of Blues

Last night I went to the new House of Blues for the first time to catch Jenny Lewis. My first impression of the venue was that it looked more like Avalon then I thought it would. Overall, I think the sound quality and acoustics where a little better though. The show was amazing. I only caught half of Deer Tick’s opening set, but they where pretty good with a John Mellencamp/ Tom Petty style. Jenny Lewis came one looking gorgeous as always and played a set of mostly her latest album Acid Tongue. The band was tight the entire night especially on the country rocking See Fernando and Carpetbagger. Other times, Jenny went behind the piano for some of the slower tracks. During the set, they played a couple of new tracks including one called The Big Wave which had a back and forth duet thing going on with the other dude in the band whose name escapes me right now. The encore included the first single of the last album Acid Tongue to which some of in the crowd sang along too. The crowd was o.k. for the most part, but there where a bunch of drunken douche canoes there who talked loudly the entire time which was annoying during the softer songs. My biggest disappointment regarding the set list was that she did not do my favorite song Rabbit Fur Coat though I understand why because Acid Tongue kind of took the place in the set list as the main balled. Overall though great show.
