Tim Wakefield, Oldest 20 Game Winner?
Cy Young one 20 games when he was 41 which is the oldest someone has won 20 games in the A.L. Warren Spahn won 20 games when he was 42 which the oldest anyone has won 20 in either league. Tim Wakefield won his 9th game tonight and will be 43 on August 2nd. The Sox have played 64 games this year which means that Wakefield is on pace to win 20 games. I know being on pace for stuff like this almost never works out and Wakefield usually gets into those slumps where he does not pitch great for a half dozen games, but if he can pull it off and be the oldest 20 game winner it would be a great Capstone to his career. In addition, it would be a feather in Dan Duquette's hat and a great representation of the talent he had finding random guys no one wanted and getting the most out of them.
