Rain Delay Strategy

Right now the Sox are in a rain delay in the middle of the 5th while up 9-1. Hopefully, the rain stops (it looks like it should not last too long) so Smoltz can get back out there for the win. Lets just say for sake of argument that instead of a short storm there was a long storm coming that might cancel the rest of the game. Would it not make sense for a team that was in the lead to start throwing at bats and getting out on purpose in order to move the game along so they can finish the 5th and make it official? Or how about the reverse. Lets say you where trailing by a ton of runs and you knew a big long rain storm was coming soon; would it not make sense to walk everyone on the other team or commit a bunch of errors in order for the innings to keep going on till the rain storm came so the game would not be official? I wonder if anyone has ever tried either strategy. In addition, I wonder if someone tried that today and it was obvious enough would the umpires/league step in and force a team to forfeit the game.
