Sox In Second Place, What The Fuck?
The Sox need more offense. Even with Wakefield getting hurt, I think we have enough pitching to win the division, but this offense worries me. There are plenty of issues big and small; first, lets look at J.D. Drew. He is currently batting .236 with 38 RBIs. I don't care if we are paying him 15 million or 1 million that is terrible for a corner outfielder. Either American League pitchers finding holes in Bay's swing, his numbers seeking the level of the averages of past performances, or the pressure of not having a long term contract getting to Jason Bay, but Bay has fallen off from his MVP like performance of the first few months. Ortiz is not the super scary Big Papi of old despite getting some of his swag back over the course of the year. . Pedroia, Ellsbury, Youk (and even Tek considering his age and position) are all having solid seasons which means that non are having career years. The easiest way to improve in terms of offense would be at short stop. Nick Green and even Jed Lowrie are back-ups players more than legit starter. I don't think it would take that much to get Tejada considering he has a big contract that Houston most likely wants to get rid of. His range is not all that good anymore on defense because of his age. on the other hand, no one is confusing Nick Green or Jed Lowrie with Omar Visqual out there in the field so it will not make a big difference.
