Youk nails a 3-2 pitch into the gap...here comes Ellsbury... Gathright rounds third... the play at the plate... SAFE! The Red Sox are in the Playoffs! and the team is running out of the dug out to mob around Youk and Gathright. That would have been cool if it just happened, but it did not. In reality, Youk struck out looking. Since the Sox most likely will win at least one more game (or Texas lose one) , I am not too worried about making the playoffs. In a way, the fact we did not get a magic ending tonight is the reason why the real magic endings in sports are all the more great. Just because something would have been a cool way to get in the playoffs, does not mean it will happen. If they always happened without fail like they did in bad sports movies, classic sports endings would not be nearly as classic.
