Winners and Losers On A Busy Day Of Hot Stove Baseball

  • Lackey gives us a very good starter especially because we will have him slotted in as a number 3 pitcher. While the money is huge, that is just the price of pitching today. Overall I like the deal; it also free up some of our young pitching for a potential block buster trade: (Adrian Gonzalez, Miguel Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez)
  • The other big deal of the day is the 3 way trade that has Lee going to Seattle and Halladay to Philly. This is a great day for Seattle because Lee along with King Felix is a great 1-2 and Lackey leaving the Angels takes away from their biggest rival.
  • As great as Lee was last year, I still think Halladay is a better overall pitcher. He has had some health problems, but I expect in the national league he is going to dominate. My over under for the number of complete games he pitches there is 15.
  • It is also a plus for the Sox that Halladay did not go to the Yankees or Angels and left the Blue Jays.
