"Indie" Artists Getting Paid

I hear M. Ward in Budweiser ads, Phoenix in Cadillac ads, Passion Pit in the Palm Pixi ads, and Vampire Weekend in HP ads. Did indie go mainstream or did mainstream go indie? Either way, I believe in C.R.E.A.M.
