The Sox and What Dating Can Teach Us About The Celtics And Cavs
Every time I think the Sox are turning the corner this season they have a game like last night when they grab defeat from the jaws of victory. Very frustrating loss.
A lot has already been written about the Cavs vs Celtics series but I wanted to add one last angle. When dating there never is a clear line that determines when you are just dating vs bf/gf/ vs being in a serious relationship. I would argue that one can only be considered in a serious relationship if the couple has had some bad fights and managed to work through it. If the couple is still in the stage when everything is lovey and never fights then that is not a serious relationship. Jackie Macmullan wrote an interesting article last week about the different personalty types of Lebron James and Kevin Garnett. James is a people person who likes to keep people happy and Garnett is slightly anti social. Bill Simmons has also repeatedly pointed out that Micheal Jordan never cared if his teammates liked him only if they respected him., Getting back to the Celtics series one of the random highlights for me was watching Garnett on the side lines screaming at Big Baby Davis for passing up a shot and Davis screaming back at him on the foul line. I never saw or can't even picture Lebron yelling at a team mate even if they were fucking up which they were for a lot of the series.Lebron seems to always want things to be like the early parts of a relationship when you don't fight and everything seems perfect. The Cavs were like a couple dating that were great together when everything was going right but when they had their first bad fight could not work through it and broke up. The Celtics on the other hand are the couple in the more serious relationship that knows how to fight but also work through the fight in a way so the relationship does not end. We saw it with Davis and Garnett in game six. There are reports that Rondo and Ray Allen drive each other nuts and have screaming matches in practice all the time. But, they seem to work through it and thus are more prepared to deal with it when things go bad on the court. The Cavs were not and that is why the many members of the Cavs will break up and go their separate ways this off season.
