High Schools Should Provide More Media Producing Opportunities For Their Students

Above is a link to an article about a radio station run by teenage girls. This radio station is based out of community center, but I'd like to see more high schools incorporate stuff like this into their curriculum. Having students produce radio/tv/youtube shows and write in newspapers/blogs is a lot more authentic learning experience than turning in a paper about an assign subject that only a teacher will read. Furthermore, technology and the internet has made it a lot easier to get ones voice heard. I just listened to their interview with Mayor Menino and they got him to say that "government has an obligation to put young people to work in the summer time" which in some respects is a pretty interesting/controversial statement.

Here is a link to the station http://grlzradio.org/home.html  and to their interview with Mayor Menino : http://grlzradio.org/images/Final_Mayor_6-9-2010.mp3
