NFL and Patriots Predictions

The season kicks off tomorrow so it is prediction time:

In short my take on the Patriots this year is that we are going to score a lot of points and give up a lot of points. I may be overrating them, but I love the 2 TE we drafted Gronkowski and Hernandez. The both seem like legit talents who will make immediate impact and a pass catching Tight End to make the offense less predictable is something this team has been lacking for a while. Second year wide receiver Taylor Price is an X factor who could be another good weapon if he stays healthy. I think Moss is gone when the season is over; but he wants one last big contract and the only way he gets that is if he puts up the numbers this year so he will be motivated. Assuming he is healthy, Welker will continue to drive defenses insane as will his younger doppelganger Edelman.  The O-line and Running Back by committee will a decent enough job for Brady to utilize all his other weapons.

I am worried about the defense though mainly because I don’t think we can pressure the quarterback. I ‘d don’t think Tully Banta Cain is striking fear into the hearts of any defensive coordinators despite getting the occasional sack. Add, in a secondary that is mostly young/inexperienced and overall not that great and I fear good QBs and even average QBs torching us for big passing days. Furthermore, Ty Warren being out for the season is going to hurt our ability to stop the run. There is some cause for optimism though. We got a lot of young guys on defense who were drafted in the first 3 rounds so maybe Belichick  can muster some of that old defensive genius and whip them into shape. All that being said, Quarterbacks are more important than ever in this league and I think having another year to recovery from blowing his knee out will help him get back to 07 form. Overall record prediction 11-5. Now for predictions and quick thoughts on the rest of the League.

AFC East:

1.  Patriots 11-5

2.  Dolphins 9-7 (scrappy team that will grind teams down with their running and pull out some wins)

3. Jets 8-8 (Revis is legit: but Rex Ryan ego is even bigger than his fat ass and head and they will blow some games due to overconfidence now that everyone is gunning for him. Plus, Sanchez is going to be the new Testaverde. For every game he wins you, he will lose you with a terrible pick)

4. Bill 2-14 (When Trent Edwards is your starting QB, you do not have a starting QB. Look for Harvard’s own Ryan Fitzpatrick to take over by mid year.)

AFC Central

1. Ravens 10-6 (They have a solid team in all aspects of the game)

2. Bengals 9-7 Wild Card (Ocho Cinco and T.O. will be entertaining; but I am sure this team will manage to Bungle a few games

3. Steelers 8-8 (The younger angrier version of me would wish that someone takes out Big Ben and hurts him. The grown up calmer version would not write that)

4. Browns ( 2-14) Remember when they were calling him Man-genius and he was a guest star on The Sopranos. Well, his team sucks and so does he.

AFC South

1. Colts 13-3 (Manning will continue to find ways to get them in the end zone. At least in the regular season)

2. Titans 12-4 (Wild Card) ( Great Running game, strong defense, and Vince Young is a play maker.)

3. Texans 8-8 (above average offense-below average defense gets you 8-8

4. Jaguars 5-11 ( I just don’t see them scoring a lot of points)

AFC West

1.  Chargers 12-4 (a lot of talent on this team)

2.  Broncos 9-7( Playoff hopes derailed when it is revealed that Tim Tebow impregnated Bristal Palin during a drunken trist)

3. Chiefs  6-10 (sorry old Pats assistant coaches, but this team is just not that good)

4.  Raiders 5-11 ( Since the Patriots have their pick, I am sad to see Jamarcus Sippin on some Sizzurp Russell go, that being said they still suck)

NFC East (commissioner Roger Goodell changes rules so the tie breaker in this evenly matched division is which team’s players have slept with Jessica Simpson the most times)

1.  Cowboys 9-7

2. Eagles 9-7 Wild Card

3. Giants 9-7

4. Redskins 9-7

NFC Central

1.  Packers 13-3 (Aaron Rogers puts up an MVP performance)

2. Vikings 9-7 (Brett Favre insists on keeping his consecutive games played streak alive despite having to crawl around the field propelling himself with his one good arm like the T 800 at the end of Terminator 2 after his ankles and other arms break off his body)

3. Lions 6-10 Young talent gives some hope to decimated City.

4. Bears 4-12 (Rahm Emanuel barges into the Bears showers and cusses out Jay Cutler after throwing his 40 interception of the season)

NFC South

1. Saints 11-5 (some Super Bowl hang over, but they will still put up big points)

2. Falcons 10-6 Wild Card (Solid team has a bounce back season)

3. Panthers 7-9 (decent overall team but no legit starting QB. Sorry Jimmy Clausen)

4. Buccaneers 2-14 ( I don’t think I can name a player on this roster without looking it up)

NFC West

1.  Seahawks 9-7(Pete Carroll rallies the troops even though the Seahawks payroll was less than USCs)

2. 49ers 8-8 (average offense and defense)

3. Cardinals 5-11 (Kurt Warner goes back to God, Matt Leinart gets cut because he is a party bow that can’t play NFL QB, which leaves Derek “I could not really beat out Brady Quinn for a QB job and Quinn has less arm strength than Colin Quinn” Anderson

4. Rams 4-12 ( Sam Bradford will show some stuff and give the franchise hope)

NFC Championship: Packers over Saints

AFC Championships: Patriots over Colts

Super Bowl: Patriots over Packers: I am a homer, did you really think I was not picking the Patriots to win it all. Bledsoe will be honorary team captain for the game.

NFL MVP: Aaron Rodgers

Coach of The Year: Pete Carroll

Offensive Rookie of The Year: Ryan Mathews (San Diego’s rookie Running Back will get a lot of yards behind a good offensive line; especially with defenses focusing on stopping the pass)

Defensive Rookie of The Year: Ndamukong Suh (Everyone says Detroit’s rookie has all the talent in the world and he has a kick ass name so he has to be good)
